Railway minister Mamata Banerjee has

82 km long proposed Haridashpur-
Paradeep railway project by
allotting a meager amount of70
crores in this railway budget for
this ambitious project. Due to
non-allotment of sufficient funds
the works of project has been moving
at a snail’s pace since a decade. In
1999 the railway authority estimated
540 crores to complete the project.
But, the cost of the project was
enhanced to Rs 600 last year.

Patnaik CM of Orissa demanded a
change in the center’s policy on
royalties of mineral resources. In a
letter to Dr Manmohan Singh PM of
India, Patnaik said that even though
24% of iron ore reserves are in
Orissa, the State does not get the
expected revenue from it due to
center’s policy.
Demanding that royalty on iron ore
should be fixed on ad valorem basis,
he requested the PM to take into

Ramesh Rout has exposed the real
face of ruling BJD.The MLA from
Athagarh saying that he wants to
continue in the post. Ramesh
resigned from the Assembly on 19
June from his MLA post. Rout on that
day went personally to meet the
Speaker and handed over his
resignation letter to Speaker Pradip
Kumar Amat at the latter’s official
residence. In another letter sent to
the Speaker of OLA and the BJD
President Naveen Patnaik, the
independent MLA revealed that he
under pressure and threatening
situation, he has resigned.

Orissa cops interrogate Badshad Gang
chief

BHUBANESWAR: A team of Orissa Police
on Monday interrogated self-styled
chief of dreaded inter-State gang
Jharkhand Badshah Yashwant Sahu aka
Balram Sahu and and his associate
Rajesh Oraon in Ranchi, police
sources said here. The accused were
involved in over a dozen incidents
of criminal activities in Rourkela
and Sundergarh districts, they said.

issues to restore complete communal
harmony in the State as well as in
the country. Noted activist A Ali
Engineer and Irfan Engineer attend
the meet and advocated for secular
curriculum for students to maintain
communal harmony across the country.
They also demanded a secular system
of education across the country to
avoid any type of communal violence.
Meanwhile, Dhirendra Panda was
elected as the State Convener of the
Forum while Pramila Swain, Deva
Ranjan, S Pattnaik and Hemanta Nayak
were among those elected to State

Riot
victims start home coming in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR, June 30: Riot victims
in Orissa’s tribal dominated
Kandhamal district, who have been
staying in various relief camps
since August last year, have started
home coming since the visit of Union
Home Minister P Chidambaram,
officials claimed on Tuesday.“Around
300 people have returned to their
respective villages in past few
days. We are expecting rest of the
victims to go back to their villages
soon,” a senior official said.
Nearly 1,200 victims are still
taking shelter in three
government-run relief camps, even
though no violence has been reported
in the region. Kandhamal, about 260
km from here witnessed widespread
violence after the murder of Vishwa
Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami
Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of
his aides at his ashram Aug 23 last
year. |

Massive plantation drive from July

BHUBANESWAR : The Forest
Department of the State Government
would launch a massive plantation
drive to plant saplings in one lakh
hectares of land. Five crore
saplings of various varieties
including medicinal plants would be
planted in different areas from July
7 with an expenditure of about Rs
160 crore, official sources said on
Sunday.
The project would begin on the first
day of the week-long celebration of
the 'Vana Mahostav' with planting of
about 25 lakh saplings on a single
day. About 20 lakh saplings were
planted on a single day last year.
Orissa was the second State after
Uttar Pradesh to undertake
plantation drive involving the
masses. It may be noted here that
the Mayawati led Government had
planted about one crore saplings on
a single day in 2007 in UP. |

Naveen Patnaik has came down heavily on Congress led Central
Government for downplaying State in national level. Referring

BHUBANESWAR: London based steel maker Anil Agarwal seems to have became a good devotee of Lord Jagannath. So, he is committed to come up with a World class University in the holy city of Puri, India’s one of the most famous Hindu religious site.
The 243-page Vedanta University Plan, which was presented to the Naveen Patnaik Government, has many promises. The campus is coming up in an area of 6,000 acres of on Puri-Konark beach.
The University Master Plan has sub-divided varsity precinct into 280 building sites of various shapes and sizes. Phase One requires a total of 78 buildings to accommodate 13,000 students.
In Phase Two 45,000 and in Phase Three 1, 00,000 students are to be accommodated in 280 building sites.
